Quote: Nah, shipping is shipping, not handling... Ah, a loophole! Probably the reason why I have never paid to expedite anything. Mine is still processing. At least my uncirculated mint set is on the way.

I believe the reason is the reps got ear full that many are calling them about their Mayflower coins, and their responses are in the same tone, you get it when we get it first.
This could be a after Christmas delivery?

If the Mint has substantial delays and doesn't get to the backordered ones by the end of the year, is it possible that this could be split between a 2020 issue and a 2021 issue? If so, one of these might have a very limited quantity... As someone who is waiting for one now, if there are, say, 8500 2020's and 1500 2021's, it would definitely be worth the wait to get a 2021. On that note, has anyone here actually physically received a silver Mayflower set yet? (i.e. have they actually made any of them yet?)

...though I suppose that would make all of the packaging an error, since it would then be the 401st anniversary. In any case, it's the realistic possibility of weird stuff like that happening that has convinced me it's a good idea to give all of my money to the Mint this year...

Earlier on APMEX for Mayflower, I could have sworn I saw pre-sale/new for the Mayflower with Dec 11th or 18th listed. But I can't find it now. Also, I have multiple things in this order all stuck. They should send out what they've got. I've seen places accidentally sell stock that was spoken for, then "oh sorry there's no more" when I had placed my order weeks ago.

Good morning everyone! I have now received both my Gold Reverse Proof as well as the Two Coin Proof Set (still awaiting the Silver Proof Coin & Medal Set like the rest of you). Question for y'all. While I plan to retain these gold pieces for my children long-term, that doesn't mean I shouldn't protect these coins as an investment as these are by far the most expensive coins in my collection. Is there anything special I should do with these coins, any certification I should seek now or is simply having the coins, as presented by the US Mint, sufficient for long term storage and identification? Thank you!

@slappy. I vote against getting them graded. Many people prefer these raw and it's not worth the grading fees imo

Thank you for the response Machine20. I'm inclined to go that path. Additionally, I'm not aware of any reason why grading can't take place at a later date if I so desired. I did see where NGC is offering a special numbering label for coins certified in the first 30 days but this seems to be a marketing gimmick more than anything else.
I'm actually living abroad right now in Deutschland and am curious how U.S. coins are viewed and appraised here. I may take the reverse proof into one of the coin shops here to see there take on it--just for curiosity sake.
One very novice question I have--if I did take it to my 'local coin dealer' in another country, would they take it out of the plastic container to examine it? Or would they examine it through the plastic shield?
I don't think I'll ever open the plastic snap and expose those coins!

I wouldn't think they'd take it out, and if they try to, don't let them!

Definitely don't let them take it out of the plastic coin holder. While they might like them, I think the only thing they'd give you for them is the spot value. Unless you're in to slabbed coins yourself, I don't see an upside to having them graded. You'll lose money on anything but a 70. The key to preserving the coins is to keep them in a good environment and don't take them out of the plastic coin holder. Videos of the 3rd party grading services holding the modern proofs with their bare hands and not wearing masks makes me cringe.

No reason to pay a company to grade these. And from what I have read on this forum, slabs are not airtight so I am not sure they would be as well protected. I would appreciate someone correcting me on this if I am wrong.

My two-tone gold PF70 Mayflower £2 from the UK arrived after forever! USPS left it on my doorstep without ringing the doorbell ... Got #66 of 100.
