Talk about worn dies! The final obverse pic seems to show a gash down across the forehead into the jaw - is that actually the case?

good eye - yes, there are some parallel scratches running down the side of the face. This is the best I could do to get a better picture:

To me, this looks more like an abrasion than a lamination.

I would agree that I believe it is abrasion.

Old, old dies. I'll say AU55--light wear, a few light dings, soft wheat stalks, and the abrasion.

Even as is, it's a pretty cool coin with no wear that I can see. I'll say MS details (scrape).

There is an abrasion, but just above the ear there appears to be an attached lamination issue, it just has not peeled off yet.
