I came across this cent where Lincoln appears to have got a bad haircut. I am a bit of a beginner so I am not sure what I mam looking at. The hair in the back is all pushed forward, but you can still see the line where the hair should have been. In addition, there looks to be a die crack just below. Please help me understand. - Thanks
Thanks SensibleSal66. The coin is definitely in bad shape. It is tough to tell in the picture, but the straight diagonal line behind the ear really looks like extra copper when I look at it through my loupe. Does that change your assessment at all?
Retained Interior Die Break with wear at the edges of the die cracks. It's not uncommon to see on Wheat cents, but this one is larger than most. Condition of the coin limits any value the coin might have.
