Been a bit slack with farthings, should add my latest stars, apologies if you have seen them posted over the GB coins thread, but they are members of my coin family now.

Some more family, definitely buying some Alpha pieces here. this will be the pattern of the collection.

2020 was the year of just getting as many dates and types as possible.

2021 will be more focus on upgrading and building on these foundations, yet still adding as well. These two coins are a mix, the 1731 is a new add - the 1912 is an upgrade.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins

1731 gFine/VF this coin at $520 is now the priciest and best in my collection beating the 1656 by $16.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins

This is an upgrade from aVF to AU/UNC and for $120 a bargain in my opinion. The titanic went down in 1912, but this coin stays afloat!

Been a while since I updated here. I show all of my new Halfcrowns and Florins here, whereas I usually show just the best on the acquisitions thread.

So 70% of these you have already seen

First of all the 1948 Halfcrown I brought in late February

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
AU not a rare coin, but scarce in this grade!

A 1962 Florin in UNC from early March
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins

Then in March I bought a large lot of Halfcrowns and Florins off AndyG and these featured mostly 19th century coins and many Gothic Florins and Victoria early heads.
In this post I will show the only 2 20th century coins

1913 Florin Fine, but the least common of the KGV Sterling Florins

1947 Florin gEF/AU, he gave me this for free!

Halfcrowns included these, all modern era

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1818 gFine, nice to have a decent example of this type (George III, small head). Only the bump distracts - the design I love, has the Georgian symmetry and lacks the late Regency/ Victorian frippery and tendrils.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
George IV 1829 - Good, but 1829 is a scarce and seldom seen date in NZ at least, 99% of late KGIV is always 1826 (The glam head where our 66 year old bloated Falstaff looks like some dashing Regency Dandy!)

The rest are all Victorian in date order for you, and yes the bulk of them are well worn VG to Fine examples which are Fine for me as they are so expensive in high grade.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1842 - The earliest truly affordable date in this series, 1838 is proof only 1839 and 1841 are great rarities that make 1905 look like 1967! This coin has a badly applied date slug too.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1844 same condition, but a more common coin

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1850, a near Fine example, this is an important coin as it was the last year of issued halfcrowns until 1874, mainly to make way for the Florin.

Moving along, in 1874 they revived the halfcrown and exactly the same design!!! Experts deduce that these 1874 - 1887 halfcrowns are more crudely rendered and worn out than the earlier coins!

And 1887 is not a typo, the year of the Jubilee saw most Halfcrowns with the newer design, but a handful of 1887 dated coins have this old head design.

Just looking at the coins, I think one difference is the lettering is taller and thinner than the 1838 - 1850 pieces (And looks more modern - the 1840s coins look Regency/Georgian style lettering, these are full late 19th century style!). Seriously look at the word "Dei" on the 1850 coin above and then look at it on the first coin here, the 1874 - someone re-engraved that lettering!

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1874 - a rather worn example of the first year back!

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Like 1850 this is a more well preserved coin, a big gap as I already had 1875, 78, 81.

The next 2 coins are previously unseen, mainly as they were more worn and less special than the others.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1883 a fairly decent coin too

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1885 another VG or so coin

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1886 close to Fine condition and probably the best of my young heads (1849 comes close but is badly cleaned).

There was an 1887 young head too - but this coin is very scarce compared to the mega common Jubilee coin.

We now skip straight to Old Head coins.

1894 - Unseen coin so far!

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
VG or so, as you can see these elaborate designs wear fast!

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
slightly better, but still worn - a great gap filler though.

I am only missing 1898 of my old head coins. Next post is the Florins - warning of upcoming Gothic Florin overload.

Starting with Gothics, we go into a couple of Jubilees and old heads as well.

1852 is the first affordable year generally, as 1849 was Godless and gothic style, but not strictly a Gothic Florin, 1850 was a proof/trial only and 1851 coins are quite expensive.

The oldest affordable gothic is 1852 (PS affordable for me could be very different for you, either way too high or too low). The average price I paid for these was £16 per coin or $30 or so, which I consider great value.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1852 high VG with some good detail and not cleaned!

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1853 this coin is a real highlight, Fine or better and lots of juicy detail.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1857, a bit more worn and probably cleaned, hence why it has not been shown yet.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1858 another Fine or close to coin, another beauty.

I have no florins for the 1860s so move straight to 1870. Now the coins have "Britt" instead of "Brit"

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1870 VG+ The detail on the raised shields virtually disappears from Fine down to VG. So much effort went into design of the images, none went into raised rims protecting the details inside!

Now for some UNSEEN coins

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1872 VG - coins of this era have die numbers too - this one is 115 or 113 (The numbers are very small and hard to read for my blind eyes)

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1873 a gVG coin and the die number is 4 or possibly 2

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1874 an almost fine coin here, the die number is 14 I think

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1878 back towards worn VG coins here - die number is 34 or 54 and this is the last of my gothic florins with a clear number on them (I think they dispensed with die numbers at this point as my 1879, 83, 85 and 86 do not have them)

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1879, this coin again is in that slightly better than a VG example coin.

Before we go any further, I must say despite comments about wear etc, I am BLOWN AWAY I have accumulated so many Gothic and other early Florins in under a year. I only decided to start collecting British Florins in Aug 2020 and in 7 short months have accumulated a great percentage of them with an amazing smattering of dates and examples of all eras from Gothic, through Jubilee, Old Head, Eddies, Georges of all varieties and Lizzies.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

Once I have the complete set, it won't stop, we will have upgrading and varieties - this is simplified gothic florin collecting - specialised you can get hundreds of varieties, before you reach the errors.

The possibilities for Gothic Florin collecting are endless!

The last group include 2 more gothics and 2 coins each of the last 2 eras of Victoria

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1883 VG - the last of my unseen coins, decent again and a late example of this design.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1885 VG+ Again a worn coin - but better than my 1886 which is really worn!

Now Jubilee coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Cleaned but decent 1890, condition is probably aFine to Fine. The crown touches 2 rim teeth

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1892 a scarce date and a full fine here (The price tage reflected it £28 or $55), but what a piece. For my Jubs I am only missing 1887, the commonest coin!

2 old heads here as well

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1894, another decent and honest coin here. This was very cheap (Prices definitely drop for Jubilees and later coins) - barely melt and worth every cent and new penny.

Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
Princetane's-Growing-Collection-Of-British-Coins
1898 high VG, low Fine and this coin was an upgrade on a Good condition coin! A super high grade old head eludes me at this stage (I have 2 very high grade Old Head Hlaf crowns) - my best is the 1900 which is VF.

Big thanks to AndyG for selling me these coins and that concludes my big buy in which took a bit of time to engineer, save money for and get.

Yet it just took 10 days for them to get from the UK to Aotearoa whilst coins I bought in Wellington have still not arrived after 2 weeks.

I have already bought another florin locally, so that may be posted next!
