Your coin is a Very Late Die State (VLDS) where heavy die wear is showing on the coin.

And what about the dent on the bottom of the bust? It almost looks like it was there when struck.

I'm not an expert. Don't know if it's PMD or a struck thru during the minting process. Others may chime in.

Figure in years of circulation and all the vending machines, and casinos it was in, then you will know why it is just a coin showing it age that was struck with a later die state. Spender.
