Just dropped $100 to The Best Defense Foundation which is a charity that benefits WW2 vets. They help with medical bills and them tell their stories and visit the places they served.
In honor of my grandfather, who served in the Navy from 1942-45. Several of my first coins where from his collection, passed to me by mom cleaning out my grandparent's house when I was about 14.
More importantly was his passion for the "American Dream", and his military service was a part of that. He grew up dirt poor, in a shack, in remote rural Idaho with a generally absent father. But he got himself through school, into the military, and with a trade as an electrician. He supported my mom to an MBA from a top school in the 1970s. He brought my family SO far. That freedom and opportunity is worth fighting for and protecting.
I've thought about it, but physically I'm not up to it. Not because I'm out of shape, but because my joints can't deal with it. As it is sometimes I'll randomly collapse because my knees give out. I'm only 18 too.
