Nice finds!

IHCs are terrific finds when they happen. I got one in my second or third box when I got back to CRH but none since (2.5 years). But I've also been predominantly searching nickels. Right now though I've a nice bunch of CWRs that I'm searching. Maybe 40 LWCs so far, but none as nice as that 1917D!! Many variety coins to attribute as well. But, true to form, I've interrupted the cent CRH to do some nickels. Only two hands and two eyes; dilemmas and I'm on vacation!!

Racking up those wheats!

I remember as a kid reading about planchets (back before the internet, when the Red Book had only black and white pictures). Well, after a 28 year break in coin roll hunting, here is my first one! Here are my questions:

1) is there a way to tell whether the planchet is copper or zinc?

2) are planchets gradable? If so, how, in the absence of devices? This one has clearly been in circulation.

Asked for a $25 box of pennies at my local Chase so the teller put together 50 rolls of customer wrapped pennies, about half of them were rolled in worn out pale red rolls while the other half were rolled in brand new crisp red ones. Inside the newly wrapped rolls I found 49 of 50 1976 counter-stamped state pennies in AU/BU condition! A few of the rolls came with 10 of them while the others only held 1 to 3. Really bummed I couldn't find that last one, clearly someone dumped their set that they paid a premium for, I'm just hoping I didn't miss it or that it was in another roll I didn't ask for. Still a great find even though it's not really considered a collectible they are in great condition.

In sheer number of Wheats, it's one of my best totals.

24 Wheats !
One 1923 in nice shape, all the rest were 40's & 50's.
(A few Canadians from the 60's too, I keep, but don't report those).
So, excluding the 1923, no older ones....no I.H.C's...no distant foreign coins, but that's ok, I got a NICE haul with total wheats...I'm pleased as punch..
