I'm glad I did- I'm three rolls in, and I already have five wheats. To be fair, I picked two of the rolls because they had enders, but each still had one wheat inside. Of those, two are very nice looking woodies, including the oldest coin, a 1917-D. And that's just three rolls. Report this Post to the Staff

My logic here is that all of the modern 'dump' coin machines have the ability to capture the magnetic coins and not deposit them into the appropriate denomination bag ... My theory is this is intended to capture the foreign coins ... but it will also capture all 1943 steel cents. Soooo ... over time the 1943 steel cents are slowly being removed from circulation. In my 40+ years of being in the hobby, only once have I encountered one in change. That was at a Carl's Jr off I-10 in Eloy AZ about 12 years ago. And, I have yet to find one in a roll. David - to your point, the last steel cent I found was in a nickel roll. I rarely get ender wheats... what I do is weigh my rolls, and search them from heaviest to lightest. Usually, the wheats show up earlier that way. And GREAT roll, Mightyheaths! After five in the first three rolls, I got three more in the first half of the box and none in the second. Wheats (8): 1917-D (woody) 1940 (woody) 1942-S 1945 1946-S 1952 1955 (poor man's doubled die) 1958-D Canadian (12): 1958 1965 (small beads, blunt 5) 1973 1979 1981 x2 1984 1991 1992 1996 2002 (zinc) 2006 (zinc) 2009 x2 -log cabin -rail splitter 2009-D x25 -log cabin -rail splitter x8 -statesman x15 -white house 1988 w/ lots of parallel die scratches on the reverse 1992 MAD 2013-D brass plated 2016 plain (my first) At one point I opened a roll and saw a steel-colored edge, which got my hopes up, but it turned out to be a 1988-D with the edge plating scraped off. CrazyCat Pillar of the Community United States 556 Posts	Posted 09/11/2016 4:05 pm So I decided to get a box of pennies which I haven't done in a while, and got a pretty good haul. Number-wise I got 16 wheats and 7 Canadians. The pre-1940 wheats were a 1917, a 1920 and a 1936-D Fun thing is, the 36-D is a hole filler From the Canadians, I got a 1955, 1976, 1985, 1985, 1986 (hole filler too ), 1991, and 2000. Not my greatest in terms of volume, but I got some new coins for my folders! (finding wheat hole fillers has been hard since I got nearly all the common dates from buying wheat rolls from coin stores. Only missing the 55-S) Pictures pending.
