Looks like the mint put out pictures and mintages for the type 1 gold eagle - the mintages look relatively low. Too bad I can't afford any more of those.

Yeah I just checked the mintages, tiny. The half eagle is even smaller, if I can scape together the money I think it'll be a good coin to flip. The 1/2oz is the lowest mintage out of all of them by at least 1k.

I'll go for one of them, can't go for all. I wonder if I should just go for the half ounce being the smallest mintage or just go for the one ounce to have an ounce of gold paired with an ounce of silver.

Luckily I was able to get 4 of them on the morning of 2/17, sold out again after ~4 minutes. Was busy the last few days so didn't get around to getting them (nor did I think they'd sell out on the first day). 300k mintage is generous as far as mintage limits, but still low in overall mintage of the series. I believe the 2018-S proof has a total mintage of around 150k yet those aren't in as high of demand.

How do you find final mintages for recent years? Wikipedia only goes up to 2015 for proofs and the sales data on the mint website is for that specific product not mintage of the entire coin.

I hadn't seen the gold 2-coin set. Wonder what two tenths of an ounce of gold will be... $500?

Also, pictures have been posted for the 2021 Proof Set. The set still has two lenses, with the two quarters in a separate lense. The price is $32.00 for 7 coins with a face value of $2.16! That's the same price as the 2020 set, which had 11 coins with a face value of $2.96 (including the bonus W nickel). For another comparison, the 2014 Proof set, which had 14 coins with a face value of $6.91, was $31.95. This is getting ridiculous. |

I think that it's funny how some talk against profit in the free market and see the government as some sort of solution to the problem. In reality, we have a perfect real world example of what the government does when it's put in charge of production and setting prices. If there was ever an example of a profiteer, the US Mint is it. A private company could produce the same proof set for between $5 and $10 and still make a good profit. It's well past time to turn over operation of the mint to private companies. This is already been done with our primary military munitions factory for decades.
