Good Landcare there! New Zealand did not issue any circulation coins in 1992 or 1993, but they did issue this in sets. 1993 Kingfisher $2 Obverse 1993 Kingfisher $2 Reverse As a one off, the $2 coin was a Kingfisher (Kotare) instead of the Kotuku (Egret) and this was again like the Bimetallic 50 cents issued in sets only and as a carded coin. This is again a loose coin I picked up fairly cheaply in an auction. The coin is the same size, shape, thickness and metal as a regular $2 coin. There were 40k like this and 10k that were sterling silver. These were the coins in the annual sets too, no $5 in these. 2 $5 coins were issued in 1993, the Queens 40th anniversary of coronation and the Sea Lion, but neither with sets of coins. In 1995, they tired of this novelty theme and started issuing coin sets with a $5 coin as the main item.

Compared to other years, my 1993 selection of Australia is limited too. The ubiquitous Landcare dollar, the first circulation dollar issued since 1988 and maybe someone can tell me what Landcare is? 93 is a funny year, the 50 cent is really scarce with under 1 million issued, there were no 20 cent coins issued and apart from the 1991 50 cent coin showing the sheep's head on the shilling - very few issued since 1985. The $2 coin is also low mintage and I don't have one. I do have the 10c and 5c though, the 5c had a huge mintage (Nearly 100 million) and 10c a smaller one (23 million - but lowest in a few years either side). Rather than be disappointed, this is the lions share of 1993 dated Australian coins. Maybe Paul Keating felt issuing coins was a low priority?

Sounds very noble, can imagine erosion and over farming is a big issue there, like here its all erosion and flooding and believe it or not - quite a lot of droughts in areas that don't usually have them like us here in Auckland, we are on water restrictions after the driest year in recorded history.
We have also had many 1 in 100 year floods in some places too - is it the same there?
Going to pick up my shillings tomorrow, can't wait!

That is actually quite usual for high country scenes if that is say late Summer or early Autumn, (Feb - April) but if that photo was taken in say Dec/Jan, then that is bad (Can't be any earlier or later as the snow would be much lower, even in November and the first big dusting is usually timed with the first major southerly which arrives between early April and mid May).
It's like how it is here in Auckland, sans the mountains!

Nice My 1992 for NZ is also some more NCLT. In this case 1992 was the big year of Columbus as it was 500 years of his "Discovery" of the New World (Paleolithic Humans, Phonecians, Greeks, Irish monks and Vikings don't count?). This lead to coins, stamps and other collectables from every country in the world. New Zealand did this set of 4 coins showcasing Explorers at the Seville World's Expo. These are currently in my possession and the photos are fesh high quality (By my standards) ones. I say this, as I will show some sold items soon. Keeping in the thread's theme, the set was minted at Canberra! The set was 4 x $5 coins (Huge crown sized cupronickel) showing the explorers, included was Columbus, Kupe (Legendary Maori explorer - likely a mythical figure) and Abel Janszoon Tasman and Captain James Cook, all relevant to New Zealand except Columbus. Presentation was a cardboard blister pack with a middle window and 2 coins facing on each side. Sadly this packaging was fairly new here (4th year of it) and the limitations of it are evident (The coins weigh 112 grams all up) and the glue has come unstuck on one side making the coins come loose. It was also issued as separate coins each in a carded pack and a proof set of them in SILVER!

Not the Greatest Photo, but there was also the standard 1992 set. This was the only way to get coins of these years. I will not lie, and say I sold this 2 years ago, but are in the market to buy a new one (It was hard to explain my behaviour as a gambling addict ) The 1992 set featured the 25 years of Decimal currency $5 coin and is a really nice design (Based heavily on the 1983 $1 - a coin I do have). If its okay with you all, my 1989 - 1991 are all sold items too, but my 1989 silver dollars are currently owned and all 1988 and earlier NCLT I will show). The sets of this era had the $2 down to 5 cents.

Thanks for showing those coins Princetane. Very nice. Quote: as it was 500 years of his "Discovery" of the New World (Paleolithic Humans, Phonecians, Greeks, Irish monks and Vikings don't count?). A bit like Australia I guess. The Dutch bumped into the west coast (literally) at least a hundred years before Cook, but I guess they thought it was just useless arid land. Steve :)

My pleasure, at least they bumped into it, Dirk Hartog got wrecked there or the Batavia or something? In New Zealand, Tasman got chased off by angry Maoris in the Nelson region and never even landed. William Dampier did not bother and no one did until Cook, who was expecting an Australian sized chunk of land when he came here (Fortunately Australia revealed itself not long afterwards). My Australia for 1992 is even more insubstantial, but we have coins in circulation. And I have them all. The $2 coin was back after a hiatus in 1991, this one is "well circulated" but you will all be pleased to know my 1988 - 1990 examples are all at least AU. The 10 cent is EF and the 5 cent basically UNC. As we move back in time, most of my 5c and 10c pieces are at least EF back to about 1980, and apart from the nicer piece here and there, only then do we strike the VF ones. There was no 20c, 50c or $1 coins issued for circulation in 1992, and the Barcelona $1 Steve showed us was a NCLT. It did come in a 1992 NCLT set called the Dollar Collection or something packaged with the 1984, 1985 MOR dollars, 1986 and 1988 special coins all restriked. This pack is pretty scarce now! The coin was also available loose and with many mint marks. The 5c and 10c again had good numbers, mostly as like in New Zealand, the lower denomination pieces were in demand. Especially the 5 cent as the 1c and 2c had been demonitised in late 1991 there! Tomorrow as we reach 1991 - New Zealand gets coins again!
