I am not the only one with a beautiful florin for 58 now. Here is mine. I consider it my finest of the Elizabethan era, and bad luck being bad luck at a stamp meeting, someone gives me an uncriuclated 1959 sixpence of Australia, a coin I don't have but arriving a day late.

My rest of Australian 58 is not quite on the same level. A worn penny and shilling, still its something other than an uncirculated florin Posting later tonight due a stamp meeting.

New Zealand for 1958 includes another nice and complete group from me. Definitely the UNC coins are becoming less common now, only the halfpenny - the rest is VF - EF. Again no 1958 coins are particularly scarce. 1958 is a good birth year Steve, same as PRINCE, Michael Jackson and Madonna.

Thanks NumisRob. PrinceTane your florin is a stunner too. Quote: 1958 is a good birth year Steve, same as PRINCE, Michael Jackson and Madonna. I knew about MJ, but not the others. Now I feel old. :( Steve

I knew who he was, African American polymath and well known Astronomist, a role model in my eyes. Also I knew of him through various History Channel shows and an episode of the "Big Bang Theory" I can understand why people would not know who he was though - he dosen't collect coins - so therefore interest levels may remain low

Getting 1957 out of the way early as I have another meeting tonight (12.40am board time is 6.49pm local time here!). New Zealand had all 5 coins this year and there were 2 types of the sixpence. There were 2 types of portrait of the Queen. The main one we have seen from 1965 back to now is the detailed one with the shoulder strap and the intense hair detail. This is the normal one on coins back to 1956. However there is also the strapless one, which was the 1953 - 1955 portrait in which no shoulder strap is visible and the hair detail is weak, in fact the whole portrait is quite flat lacking much detail. The more scarce 6d has this portrait. Only 200k were minted compared to 2 million + of the other. Making the error scarce but not rare. The strapless 6d is the coin on the left, both are in VF only. It is bizarre as most no shoulder strap error coins are 1956 (The 3d and 1d). The rest of 1957 fairly humdrum, the shilling had a lowish mintage and again a nice halfpenny in the line up.

Again my Australia is a limited selection and an "average" florin for you all. I have for you a Florin, shilling, 3d and a penny, all are "average" condition. The coins of 1950s Australia did not really have many varieties. 1957 is a year memorable to me for some of the greatest early rock and roll, songs like Lucille, Peggy Sue, Donna, Jailhouse rock (One of the few Elvis songs I like), Little Darlin, Great Balls of Fire and Wake up little suzie. Just because I am young, does not mean I can not appreciate classic music from the past!
