John W. Winder was listed as a daguerreotype artist at the corner of West Row and Court streets in the 1855 Cincinnati directory. His counterstamp is on an 1853 dime.
West(ern) Row is now Central Avenue in Downtown Cincinnati today; this location is 1 block north of the current City Hall building. Interesting piece of history
It does look like a test piece, even if the counterstamping had been perfect and not doubled it would have been difficult to read.
Interesting that the stamp is the address and city and business name, but nothing about WHAT the business does. I would have thought "Winder D'otype Wrow &Court" would be a better ad. How many West Row and Court Streets are there in the cities & towns in the immediate Cincinnati area?
