Here's a coin that has been cleaned in the past buts is now beginning to tone nicely.
Will this coin ever become market acceptable or are there just to many issues?
I believe it's a Obverse #1 so please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm also thinking it would grade VG10 or maybe F12 so opinions please.TIA

Cheers, Bill

Bill, your coin is an obv 2. I point to denticle
my guess is F12, maybe 15 on a sunny day. the cleaned , yes it is relevant, but show me 100 coins that age and I bet 95 have been cleaned. So why even mention it?

I'm at VG-10 on this and concerned that the rim ding might detail it.

I never understood what the big deal is on a CIRCULATED coin being cleaned, unless of course there is significant resulting damage. By definition, circulated coins will have wear. Does it make a difference how the wear was obtained? In many cases careful cleaning will improve the look and eliminate distracting marks. Now on a "mint state, uncirculated" example, that is an entirely different discussion. A F12 cleaned coin to me is a non issue. Just my thoughts.

Looks like an F-12. The cleaning is minor and not an impediment. It's a collectable coin for the series.

Fidius, I mean the difference is that when a coin is cleaned its not natural wear so people tend to not want to buy it as that "improved look" is not done naturally. IMO I think that many people would want a non cleaned coin, than a cleaned coin of the same caliber.
