Quote: I'd like to see an end to the "Quarter of the Month". Pick a permanent design to continue forward and call it a day. Sorry probably not going to happen. The Washington crossing the Delaware reverse set to come out next years was supposed to be the new permanent design, but there is now a bill passed and awaiting the Presidents signature that will make it just a 1 years design, then we get 5 years of five designs a years honoring prominent women, followed by five designs in 2026 for the 250th anniversary, then five more years of five designs a year for youth sports (I think they will have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to come up with 25 youth sport). And along with the youth sport there will also be five design each year for paralympic sports on the half dollar. Oh and they are to make five oz silver versions of all of these, and they have the authorization to make fractional silze silver ones too, and they can also use privy marks as well. All told you are looking at at least 210 quarters 25 half dollars and at least 55 to 60 5 oz pucks.

Understood Conder. Just seems like it's an end run around the annual limit on Commemorative coins. Personally I'm not in favor of it, but I am probably in the minority in this regard.

Conder, it depends whether the US Mint considers video games as a youth sport. Imagine the possibilities! The mint can colorize them so that they look like arcade tokens! (Unless Canada beats us to it).

If they retain the 2-D flat designs I'm not going to worry about what the theme is.
Now if the designs pop and have depth - I may jump on board!

If there are to be multiple yearly designs they should be NIFC only and just circulate a regular design. Also they should have their "own" set and NOT be included in mint and proof sets.

I love picking out the quarters from circulation and filling my Whitman folders...a kid again. NIFC just wouldn't do it for me...it's enough the $1 coins are NIFCy.

Just think, 5 designs a year with P, D, S business strike quality, S proof. S silver proof, W, that's a potential 30 quarters a year, and of course they could do them with or without privy marks, that could push it up to as many and 60 quarters a year. And that doesn't even include the possibility of reverse proofs or enhanced finish pieces.

Of course the Mint has no problem offering all these, but will be unprepared to ship them out to customers... I foresee a whole lot more indefinite "Prossessing" on my order status.

I wish the people trying in the mint would learn from the Canadian mint. The RCM started making a "special" REV design on their coins many moons before the US jumped into the game. Canadians got so tired of "special" happening so frequently that "special"lost its attraction. Now the RCM makes an insane number of different annual collectables. The RCM started to call silver bars and 3D sculptures (even a 3D merry-go-round!) "coins." This straying from the seemed to be the RCM trying to appeal to non-coin collectors by colorizing, making holograms, etc. Opening a new and profitable market became more important than numismatics. Collectors used to be able to get one of every issue from the RCM per year. Now it would take more money than most people have to be able to get one of each issue. I sure hope our own system does not go this direction. However, from Conder's post, it seems like we will be going that way. The sad thing is almost every Canadian special issue loses a lot of value after being released. Some people like to collect coins thinking they at least bought something that will retain its value. Yes, it would be "fun" for some to have a Pac Man, Bigfoot, Elvis, Park Place & Boardwalk, and Peter Pan Peanut Butter US quarter. But how long before the fun is gone from so much diversity b/c it takes a 20 volume album set to fill all the holes? And who wants to waste their time looking through all of them?

I'll take the P/Ds from circulation and buy a roll of the S's.
