I couldn't match this up with anything on variety vista. Has it taken a hit or been altered I'm not sure. Any help or comments appreciated

I'll say PMD and circulation flattening.

Does have a similar look to DDOs of that year, but I agree this is just PMD

Thanks ijn1944 and Kloccwork419. Hard to see how the shape would be created from flattening but I'll take your word for it

Not seeing a match yet. The stronger DDO's have the 'E' on WE swooping upwards. So I rule these out. Your coin has a normal 'E' appearance.
Wexler's 1944-D 1¢ WDDO-035 looks interesting, but not seeing an image of the 'E' on WE? You might check the Wexler listings to see if any die cracks match. (several listings)

Thanks coop. I'm not seeing a match there either and liberty doesn't look doubled. It could be nothing but the nine looks like an extreme fatty to me

Hmm, I'm not totally convinced that this is just circulation flattening. It looks like there is some circulation flattening going on as well, but I don't think circulation flattening alone would cause such a dramatic flare (especially in a location where extra thickness DDOs are known to occur for this date.

Thanks SamCoin. My thoughts exactly but I'm often wrong so I didn't want to be too argumentative. Although nothing wrong with a healthy debate. Bottom line its walking and talking like a duck to me

I'll keep looking for a match but the only similarities I see are in the date
