The re-grade would be more for fun than for "value", I think I'd rather try for a gold bean if I can find a dealer to submit though - again just for a bit of fun to add to the stash.

Just would like to revive this to ask the community why they think this only received MS63? I've studied the photos and can't see much wear at all, just a few marks as mentioned by Fortcollins when he played around the contrast. I personally own different years graded MS63 that have tons more scratches and scuffs than this coin so it has me a bit confused. I'm not saying the TPG was wrong here, just wanting to know why they decided on '7 under perfect.' I'm only asking because I have recently purchased a Roll of 1881-S, and I should receive them tomorrow or Monday so I will be picking the best ones to post new threads on. They all look excellent and I'm really hoping to get MS67 out of at least one of them. But would love some tips on this specific year.

Many 81-S Morgans have PL or semi-PL surfaces that make it difficult to assess by photograph. This one has a scratch in front of the nose and some chatter in the fields that wasn't apparent in the original photos, although it still seems to be undergraded.

i had this one at MS65 possible 66 but after the 2nd set of photos I can see this no higher than MS64 and can see why they gave it MS63.
