I've heard they are doing a national parks State Quarter program after the territories. Is this rumor (or fact) correct?

They are only going to do one per state and territory, so actually one per year would be fifty-five years.

That's odd. How do you choose between Death Valley and Yosemite for CA, or Zion and Arches for UT?
I think I'm going to stay away from this series, aside from the occasional pocket change. Just too much of a hassle...

I am sure the decision will be left to each State to decide.

Referendums maybe?

If they really wanted to represent D.C. for what is is they should have had a bum sleeping on a steam vent with litter all over the sidewalk.

I grew up pretty close to D.C. and it is really disappointing to me that our CAPITOL CITY is in the shape it's in.

I did see one design that I liked, It has the Washingtom Monument in the background with a Cherry Blossom in the foreground. Did anybody else see that one? was it from David Carr?

Does every state have a national park? Even D.C.?

Delaware is the only state without a national park.

As far as I know, every state has at least one National Park or Historical Site (feel free to scrutinize that list).

List of US National Parks and Historic Sites

For the record, my vote for SC would be to honour Fort Sumter or Cowpens National Battlefield!

Shoot, I wanted the District of Columbia Quarter to have a Handgun on it, to commemorate the Second Amendment!

Did anyone notice the Title II Provision in H.R. 6184 about the 'giant' 3-inch diameter (Five Troy Oz.) .999 Silver bullion versions of these Quarters?
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bil...ll=h110-6184

Quote:
Section 5112 of title 31, United States Code, is amended by inserting after subsection (t) (as added by title I of this Act) the following new subsection:

'(u) Silver Bullion Investment Product-

'(1) IN GENERAL- The Secretary shall strike and make available for sale such number of bullion coins as the Secretary determines to be appropriate that are exact duplicates of the quarter dollars issued under subsection (t), each of which shall--

'(A) have a diameter of 3.0 inches and weigh 5.0 ounces;

'(B) contain .999 fine silver;

'(C) have incused into the edge the fineness and weight of the bullion coin;

'(D) bear an inscription of the denomination of such coin, which shall be 'quarter dollar'; and

'(E) not be minted or issued by the United States Mint as so-called 'fractional' bullion coins or in any size other than the size described in paragraph (A).

'(2) AVAILABILITY FOR SALE- Bullion coins minted under paragraph (1)--

'(A) shall become available for sale no sooner than the first day of the calendar year in which the circulating quarter dollar of which such bullion coin is a duplicate is issued; and

'(B) may only be available for sale during the year in which such circulating quarter dollar is issued.

Sounds like a Private Mint's Silver Round in general description, doesn't it? (3-in. diameter, 5 Troy Oz.)

They would have to use a historic site. There are no Historic Sites listed on the wiki page, but I got several hits with Google.

Well they better hurry up and get started. The way the legislation is worded all of the sites (but possibly not designs) have to be selected within 270 days of the passage of the act.

Gloucester Fisherman top choice in a poll of MA residents - how can this be when it isn't even on the list of national parks sites? Oh, well, if accepted, it bodes well for Delaware that doesn't even have any sites on the list!

May I ask a question? ( I apologize for not reading complete post) In canada every year there are special release circulation coins that are meant to be collected. But almost always there is also just the regular issue coin as well from what I remember. Can this not be done in US as well?

Are folks having trouble finding DC quarter rolls in local banks. Finding many in Connecticut are either not getting them or aren't even aware of their existence.
