Dear all,

I recently acquired two coins which I'm having a hard time attributing.

The first is a copper coin that seems to be issued by the Western Satraps ruler Nahapana. While most of the Nahapana issues are silver drachmae, while a few others are copper, with the lion motif, I have not come across this variant, which basically looks like a smaller copper version of the silver drachma. Weight: 1.2g

The second one seems to be a central Asian shahrukhi. 4.7g. Not the best grade, but it'd be good to know what it is.

Thanks.

The first coin is Western Satrap and appears to be Narapana.

Yes echizento. What I'm saying is that it is either an unpublished denomination or a fouree. Which one, I'm not sure.

The second coin seems to be a Timurid tanka of Shahrukh.

Interesting Nahapana. My money's on ancient forgery - the Western Satraps did produce lead/copper coins, but not using the same layout as the drachms. One-off Indian imitations are rare, but they exist. I found this 1g imitative Apollodotus II, for instance

Thanks Kushanshah, and very interesting coin, Finn. I've not come across this imitation before.
