Found this 1986D LMC in a roll of cents from the bank. On the REV I see separation and doubling of the lettering of RICA in AMERICA, ENT of ONE CENT, and on EPU. I checked VV, Coppercoins and Wexler and there is no listing for such a DDR on this LMC. Is this coin worthy of sending in for possible confirmation as a new DDR?

Forgot to mention separation and doubling of letters in UNITED as well.

I suspect MD is the culprit, but I do see what looks like split serifs on the bottom of the A and R. Any chance you can get pictures in better focus? Looks like your microscope might need to be adjusted slightly.

Above the reverse device are split plating issues, but they are real sever, as there is not zinc peeking out, yet. But I feel it is not strong enough to get listed. You could try, but the condition of the coin is a bummer. I would mark it questionable and keep it save for now. Maybe a better one will get submitted, or maybe it might be too minor. But keep an eye out for a better example. (sometimes a DDO or DDR will be released in certain area and other areas never see one. So you might be in an area for these?)

On UNITED, there is Machine Doubling on that area. Bottoms of the devices. Note on the 'E'.

Sam--there are definitely split serifs on the R and C in AMERICA, as seen on the additional photos below.

Coop---Thanks for taking a look. But, not certain I understand your comment. When you say there are "split plating issues" are you saying this is not a DDR, or just that plating issues are an additional factor?

The dark color above the tops on UNITED. Those are the areas affected most the time on the Split plating.

The only thing of interest I am seeing is the right leg on the R in AMERICA. Need better pics, less glare and in focus please.

Yes, that was what I was seeing on the R, mb560600. That said, it's in the category of "if it is, it's so minor I probably wouldn't bother with it."

Thanks Coop, SamCoin and John1 for your comments. Using my Pluggable USB scope I am seeing separation and doubling on the T and E in UNITED, as well as on several letters in EPU. I will keep the coin in my collection and hope that someone else may also find a 1986D with a DDR such as this confirmed.

But seeing something in huge images, is not making it anything but a minor DDR. We see this. A true DDR is easier to see. A collector will not buying something that is not seen in a 10X glass. A doubled die is worth a lot more, when it is easily seen. A 60X view is not necessary. It should be easily seen. Post me some mages of what you are seeing and I'll find a doubled die of the same letter, to put beside it to show how a stronger doubled die should look, to not be a minor one. (Make sure to show the full device. That way I can make a side by side comparison of the single device or devices. I prefer to see the in the setting of The full word. Or part Phrases Like 'UNITED', 'States oF', 'AMERICA' 'IN GOD', 'WE TRUST', 'ONE', 'Cent' "Dime', 'Quarter', 'Dollar'. Seeing a single device does not show, how strong a doubled die is. Sometimes looking to close, is just that looking too close. If it is a doubled die, It should be seen not on just one device, but on several. That is what you need to see, for something to get listed.

The split serifs on the R in America looks similar to the R in 1973P 1do-001.

I agree Willy13. I would say this is a DDR with a light spread similar to the 1973 you mentioned. I will try to post some better photos of the separation and doubling of the devices.

Back a few months ago, I made a few posts in relation to me finding a couple unlisted DDRs in the 1980s era.

I got confirmation that it might be the real deal from several members, including Mike Diamond. However once I sent it off to a variety evaluator, it came back as not what I had hoped for.

I'm seeing the same thing on your coin. I believe this to be a lighting issue, tricking the eye into thinking there are split serifs, when it reality there aren't any.
