Its a shame they didn't put this program on the half dollar. I believe it would have been perfect for newer collectors who started with the State Quarters. They could have begun on a new series and a new denomination, which most of them probably have not seen much in circulation if at all. I'm sure alot will continue even though its on the quarter, but I think alot of nwer collectors will drop out....... Jim

.There are just too dang many new coins coming out to keep up with all of them

The U.S. mint still seems intent on doing what the U.S. Postal Service did.

Destroy a noble hobby.

I can say that I agree that the choices are nice to choose from, however, I can not help but feel that if a new coin is struck and I do not have it and wanted it, well I just sometimes have a little much to be concerned about, I will be going in circles hunting for it, like I am doing for some coins now!!
Also I do think, IMO,a cash cow has been found!

i say we fight the rediculous number of new quarters by stopping their circulation and using half dollars instead, I for one would rather walk around with dimes and nickels instead of seeing this rediculous series of quarters. What are we turning into Canada?!?!

Where do you think we got the idea for the State Quarters from? It was Canada's two year series of Canadian Provinces on their 25 cent pieces.

Next the mint will probably be issuing a dime for each senator who has ever lived. This is getting absurd. How many national parks do we even have?

I don't know how many parks we have, but only (and I use that term loosely ) 56 of them will make onto quarters.

But then how would thy be able to get the new coins? The half dollar doesn't circulate and the banks don't order them. You would then be requiring these new collectors to have to buy every piece at a premium from either the Mint or a dealer.

Unless they choose to extend the program for a second round (allowed for in the legislation) in which case it will be 112 of them.

Conder,

Wow, that's just crazy. Here's the verbaige (for other folks, of course):

Quote:

`(i) DETERMINATION- The Secretary may make a determination before the end of the 9-year period beginning when the first quarter dollar is issued under this subsection to continue the period of issuance until a second national site in each State, the District of Columbia, and each territory referred to in this subsection has been honored with a design on a quarter dollar.
