@Chopped Triumphs: Nice Fantasy Over-Strike piece - Congrats on your latest acquisition!
This one falls into a category that differs for me from many of Carr's other fantasy over-strike pieces - this one is for a date that is prior to the coin being legally authorized by Congress (1985 vs. 1986).
It's different, IMO, from pieces created by Carr that feature a date that was legal but missing from a series. When a piece features a date outside of the legal authority for the original, I just view it as being on a tier one step below his other "legal range" reproductions. It's no less collectible, but, for me, on a different plane than his other pieces.

I understand what you mean, personally I like the pieces that are in the date range but have a subtle difference that wouldn't be noticed by a person who didn't know it was a fantasy issue. Kind of like the 2005 W nickel, the more it's on the edge, the better. Thanks for looking.

2022 CC Morgan dollar overstruck on genuine Morgan dollars from 1878-1904 Morgan dollars were originally minted from 1878 to 1904 and then again in 1921. 100 years later, the US Mint commemorated the anniversary with the issue of 2021-dated Morgan and Peace dollars struck on 0.858 T oz .999 silver blanks. The Morgans had the mint marks D and S the Carson City and New Orleans mints has a raised pad with CC and O.The Peace and Morgan dollars with no mint mark indicated the Philadelphia mint. In mid-2022 the US Mint announced that they were scrapping plans for 2022 Morgan and Peace dollars due to the unavailability of silver blanks. The announcement did indicate that the US Mint intended to resume production of Morgan and Peace dollars with 2023 dates, after skipping 2022. Enjoy

More than a fantasy strike, a fantasy issue. 2016 Winged Liberty Head Silver Dollar overtruck on a 40% silver Ike (Sorry Jbuck) I just noticed; the ghost of Ike is really noticeable on the obverse. Enjoy!
