"1853-O Arrows and Rays" Seated dollar overstruck on actual Seated dollar. For some reason this one really spoke to me.

It's somewhat of a mate to this cruddy 1853-O Arrows and Rays half that I picked up many moons ago.

Thanks, NumisEd! I literally fell in love with it on first sight. Some people may not approve of overstriking an original Seated dollar, but the result here is far finer than the probable cull used to produce it.

I'll hate to break your bubble, but it doesn't say that it was a Seated dollar anywhere, only "US Silver Dollar". Judging by the visible undertype details, it was a Peace dollar.
Daniel Carr usually tries to use appropriate planchets, but I guess this time he couldn't acquire enough and had to make do with later dollars.

I wonder if any of those were actually overstruck on Seated dollars... if they could be identifiable they could be seriously major pieces (for anyone who cares about that.)

An excellent coin anyway!

Did Carr overstrike every US coin? If so, you could assemble a "Daniel Carr Type Set".

I haven't been paying close attention to Carr's various releases - I didn't realize he was creating over-strike pieces for issued US coins vs. just fantasy dates/mints.

I realize that the arrows at the date and "MM" mint mark are unique to the Carr over-strike dollar vs. the actual coin, but I think he's getting a little too close to the line with this type of piece considering the arrows are seen on the issued Half Dollar coin with the same basic design.

january1may, you are correct. I read the wrong listing on the Moonlight Mint page.
