If it were a beach find, I would expect it to be green. Not in a pretty way!

I do believe copper doesn't oxidize when in water - only when in presence of Air/Oxygen? If on beach then constantly washed by the waves.. We need @Silviosi for this one! be great to have a tagging system on the forum. I go to Lake Erie all the time and find worn glass in the surf, not dried up on the beach

Rothery, on a beach (ocean beach), you have to take in consideration the salt factour.

Thus my mention of if anyone has a rock tumbler, they might be able to see what affect that would have on coins. Maybe something like this? Maybe they will turn into slugs. I would just to know and images to answer the question that has been on my mind.

@Merc - you should know Lake Erie isn't a salt water body seeing you are from "Down South" of us. I've found coins where the waves are still gently lapping at them that look like that, not pushed all the way up where they dry and start to corrode! I try to add input and discussion - that is all

If it was a pocket change that rub and tumbled in water or pocket or whatever, don't you think that the LMC would be the first thing to rub off!!
If you say acid had done this, the color of the penny would be totally different don't you think?

I'll get you the weight soon, have to get new scale.

John, finally got a chance to weight the coin, it's 2.5, The size is same as the regular penny but it is thinner.
