...of finding any errors in a 1,000 coin bag of the new Buffalo nickels? I've never bought by the bag before, I'm kinda anxious to see what I can find!!
Rest in Peace

As jmany errors as I found going through bags of cents in the early days I would say your chances are slim. However it could happen so take a look.

The odds these days are pretty slim. The Mint utilizes very good equipment. Between the riddling machines, and all the other major errors are just a thing of the past. Now, I fully expect to hear about doubling or some form of it on this issue. Dealers are banking hard that this will be a tremendous boost. The Mint officials have not released any idea on mintage numbers, their statement is "will meet the demand of commerce". Look for many BILLIONS of this coin. They see the hype also, and you can't beat the Mint in marketing.

Yeah, I didn't think I would have very good odds. Probably would hit the Powerball first! I wouldn't mind seeing a severely filled die or a die crack, but a Cud, clip or off center would be pretty awesome as well!![:p]

ndgoflo, I ordered two of the 1,000 coin bags knowing I will NEVER open them! I truely HOPE no one finds any significant errors with the Buffalo nickel as there is nothing worse than stashing a bag or two back and ALWAYS wondering. Probably the greatest thing in my favor is my rotten luck finding anything different so I can over come the urge to open pretty quickly! These bags will be for the future, when ever or where ever that may be!

How could you stand not opening them?!? That would drive me nuts! I'd have to know what was in there.

In other words you aren't going to remove that three-leged one to keep it from getting dings and bag marks? Wow! Now that will take some real believing in the future....

If they run them through counting machines I would guess the chances are slim. Anything deformed that does get through the riddlers supposedly jams them up. I would look for some big die cracks. Actually, I would be happy if the mint could just tell me if I have an order coming to me some day or not .

Old Dan, How ironic that you would come up with my BIG plans. All I need is a little private time and a Dremel tool!!! I can see them on ebay now and as long as an individual is up front and honest about what and how he did it they would not be considered unlawful and, as we all know, bidders would probably fight over them. I would call it MY tribute to the greatest Buffalo nickel of all time---the 1937D 3-legged buffalo---and honor it with the 2005 3-legged made right here in my shop! What do you think? Are there possibilities here or what?

Only if you have them slabbed by SGS as MS70. Then they would be a true investment in the future! "Looks all good to me"

Following careful review and diligent research, I believe I can safely say that Terry’s likeness was not part of the 2005 Buffalo nickel, as he had claimed. We have come up with three possibilities of what appears on the horizon of the field on which the Buffalo is standing. First it could be exactly as the Mint has described, a tuft of grass (this possibility rates 50% chance). The second possibility would be a Buffalo chip (due to its positioning between the Buffalo’s hind legs and directly below the spot of origin, this chance rates 49.5%). The last possibility and least likely is a very well camouflaged Hoosier laying on the ground with his radio antenna sticking straight up (this was rated 0.5%) This should take the guesswork out of what actually appears on the new nickel. Well guess it MUST be the Kansas quarter as originally stated? Guess the Mint was true to their word and left me there instead of on the Buffalo nickel! Actually I would have looked good there as well? Will have to wait on the darn quarter now to get to the bottom of this! Compared to my actual prone position, at any given time, I would have been nothing more than a speck on the landscape so I will have to study both coins hard to come to a definite conclusion! None the less---I was there and I did bring a buffalo home!

Yah, yah, that is the problem with some of us collectors. I was in Texas 60 years ago and brought one of them (Texan. not Buffalo) home also. But don't go around telling people they took my picture for doing it. The wife says "that is a **** lie, they did take a picture of the two of us". Sorry about that!
