Quote: 1933 Wreath Crown (mintage 7,132): Fantastic! Quote: The mega-rare 1933 penny - a fake of course, but a reasonable attempt compared to many of the cartoon-like versions from the Far East: Oh my!

During the reign of James I (of England) small quantities of silver mined in Wales was sent to the Tower mint in London to be turned into coin. To distinguish the issue from regular coinage the Prince of Wales' feathers were added above the reverse shield. The practice continued into the reign of Charles I, up until official minting of coin in Aberystwyth Wales was authorised in 1637. Such coins struck in London are scarce, with a few types recognised as amongst the rarest of the Tower issues. And here's one. Not a great deal to look at, but only four examples known until 2004 with the discovery of this coin and one other in the Prestbury hoard. Shilling of Charles I. Spink 2790, Sharp D1/2 Harp privy mark dating it to between 21 Jun 1632 and 11 Jul 1633.

Lovely shilling, Tom Goodheart! This is my other Wreath Crown - 1927. Mintage 15,030 of which 15,000 were released in Proof Sets. I don't know what happened to the other 30...

I like varieties, zookeeperz -- all exceptional. This is a known variety: 1772 Half-Penny, misspelling of George [NGC 64]. Picture quality not so great.

Centsation - that 1772 halfpenny is just sensational! Here's my specimen of that greatly over-hyped modern rarity, the Kew Gardens 50p!
