Honestly it is less distracting than reading hits in a field to me...I'd send it in.

This coin is one I think is worth sending in. On a busy day they may not even see the issue we are all looking at now that it's been pointed out.

In MS65 it's $1800-2500
In MS63 it's $900-1600
In MS63 it's $800

even at half of any of those for a details coin (which I'm not convinced they would call it) it's big enough jump to risk it. Depending on what Zurie payed originally, could be a big wind fall and might only break even, but if you are into it at a good price then it's all upside potential if it goes big.

I guess the consensus is to get it graded. I would love to see this in a problem-free holder, so I'll send it in and see what happens. I think it's unlikely that they will just miss the damage, but I'll have to figure out how to get them to grade it on a busy day! I'll update this thread when I get it back.

If I do send it in, I will definitely update this thread.

Please do! It's worth the gamble for this coin IMO. TPGs are anything but consistent about flagging damage but it will be nice to know whether they catch this very inconspicuous PMD.

Is PCGS/NGC really that anal about those kinds of marks? If that is UNC/details, I'm going to start only buying cleaned coins.
I am a newbie, but if I can get coins like this for details prices, than why pay up for the 64's, 5's, and 6's?

Please donīt a-penny-sold. Cleaning ruins the toning on silver and leaves a strange brassy surface on the coin if it is copper. It also takes the top layer of metal off of the coin taking off some detail. Cleaned coins are worth less than the uncleaned ones in a worse state.

Okay, this coin is on its way to PCGS, along with a few other coins. The turnaround time there is currently about 5 to 6 weeks, so it may be awhile before we see how they handle this issue. I'm hoping for the best, but I won't be surprised either way. Thanks everyone for your comments.

after seeing the close up of the reverse I'm going to recall my details designation. possible MS64 but I'm in at MS63 on this one due to strike and possible luster break on the right obv field which could be from angle/lighting

Good luck! Getting my final answer in with all my back and forth antics..... back to my original MS63 with a shot at 64 (easy 64 without the wheelmark), straight grade.

Time to update this thread. I just got the coin and TrueView pics back from PCGS. Not surprisingly, they noted the machine damage and gave it an unc details grade. I originally thought I might break it out if it didn't straight grade, but now I sort of like it in the holder. Still a great looking coin, and I'd say it would be a 65 without the damage. I'll probably end up selling it at some point, but it will be a hard one to price.

Bummer, I was thinking they wouldn't call that out. But maybe they have spies reading the CCF now!

Really sorry about that, but still think it is worthy of a good price on it, $400-550 at least even for details, this one has good eye appeal, I would sell it raw myself. Good chance others might not even think the area in question is all that bad. That said I wouldn't want to mislead anyone, so maybe just excellent photos and minimal description in an auction.

on all counts @westcoin.

If it were me, I'd keep it in the holder until you decide what to do, but if you decide to sell, crack it and ditto what westcoin said.
