Hmm, I'm a little on the fence on this one, but pics #1 and #2 make me think it is scratches. I'm interested to see what the consensus is.

First impression is 'scratches' and so far, I have no second impression.

The strike through left a stain. Maybe a bristle from a brush with grease on it

Second impression is a strike through. I think I'll go with my second impression as With the new better pictures I do not see any movement of metal which would indicate scratches.

Thanks Dearborn. I missed it myself until a few minutes ago. I wonder if they would label it struck through obverse and reverse. I haven't seen one of those

can you post up a picture of the edge at the strike through point? It may not show because of the reeding, but I'm curious if it does.
