As I mentioned in my "Coins Depicting Eagles" Index post (Classic US Commemorative Coins Depicting an Eagle), nearly half of the design types of the classic US commemorative coin series incorporate one or more animals in their designs. Here's an Index to my posts of coins over in the "Post Your..." thread that include an animal either instead of, or in addition to, an eagle. Animals were portrayed on silver and gold coins within the series.

The link for each coin listed below connects to a post that presents a brief discussion of the coin's design and its incorporation of a member of the Animal Kingdom.

Here' my list of 16 "Classic Commemorative Coins with an Animal Other Than (or In Addition To) an Eagle." Did I forget any?

1. 1900 Lafayette Memorial / Paris Exposition - Horse
2. 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition Gold $1 - Dolphins
3. 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition Gold $50 - Owl, also Dolphins
4. 1920 Maine Statehood Centennial - Moose
5. 1925 California Statehood 75th Annniversary - Grizzly Bear
6. 1925 Stone Mountain Memorial - Horses plus Eagle
7. 1926-39 Oregon Trail Memorial - Oxen
8. 1927 Battle of Bennington-Vermont Independence Sesquicentennial - Catamount
9. 1935 Hudson, NY Sesquicentennial - Whale
10. 1935 Old Spanish Trail - Cow
11. 1935-36 California-Pacific International Exposition (aka San Diego) - Grizzly Bear
12. 1936 Albany, NY Charter 250th Anniversary - Beaver, plus small Eagle
>>>>> See also: 1936 Albany, NY Charter - Coins with Flora Thread
13. 1936 San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Opening - Grizzly Bear
14. 1936 Wisconsin Territorial Centennial - Badger
15. 1936 York County, ME Tercentenary, Horse
16. 1938 New Rochelle, NY 250th Anniversary - Calf

BONUSES

- 2018 Breast Cancer Awareness Silver Dollar
- 2005 Westward Journey Series - American Bison Nickel PNC

The coins listed above are part of a broader "Post Your..." thread that includes coins depicting any animal within the Animal Kingdom. So, there's plenty to see once you're there! Take a few minutes to look around after you check out one or more of the above.

I somehow missed this when first posted. A fabulous list of 'other' animals.

I suggest for discussion sake we could include the Mermaid from the 1935 Hudson NY coin. A Mermaid is definitely an animal, albeit a mythological one.

I've always been partial to the 1927 Bennington-Vermont.

@Ballyhoo: Good choice!

The Bennington-Vermont's high-relief surfaces make the design stand out!
