KLD I did searchers today with dealers I got the tip there will be a flood of them in a few months as they may not release any 2006 $1 for circulation they made the 2005 roos as a back up as the Royal Australian mint are doing work at there site. I was told just wait a while and we will find them in our Aussie change

Just when I thought I can get a good deal!! I received a second chance offer( ebay) at US $35 for one of these. I guess the news is out and people want to get rid of it.

Steve.
Yes, except those are the wrong colour for a dollar.

Grendelfreak. The dollars are actually pretty good examples, unfortunately the scanner does not do them justice. Steve

No, it is set on colour, but I think it may we nearly worn out. I have done thousands of scans to catalouge my stamp collection. Steve

I received my 2005 Australia $1 Mob of Roos today and would like to pose a question to all of you Australians! The reverse of this coin is absolutely immaculate for a circulation strike? And of course that is a statement made with my limited Aussie dollar expertise. I do think, for all practical purposes, the Mob of Roo coins were accidentally made by error and, after the mint discovered the error, they continued to make more. My belief, at this time, is a mint employee, when changing a worn out or damaged die, may have checked out a Proof Mob of Roos reverse die instead of the commemorative reverse that was supposed to be run in 2005! That would explain the reason the coin just surfaced (late in the year) and the mints total silence on the matter. All they had to do was run a few hundred thousand more and no one would ever know of the error. Is it possible to tell the difference between the proof Mob of Roo dies and the Business Strike die used to make normal everyday circulating coins? After studing this 2005 reverse Mob of Roos side by side with my proof Mob of Roos I can see absolutely NO difference in the design what so ever? How about it Aussie collectors? Lets hear your opinions as I think a Mint employee boo-booed to bring all this on!

Hi Terry....I collect every single Aussie dollar issued since 1984 and am way out at sea with the appearance of this coin. It is still early days to draw any assumptions. As you are aware of, there are a lot of rumours but nothing concrete yet. The RAM is tight lipped about it. In regard to the high quality of the strike and finish, I can't shed any light either as I do not have one to make a comparison.

There are a number of these around Sydney and Melbourne but as yet have not seen any in Brisbane. Not to worry as I already have one thanks to a member of the aussie forum who ran a contest and I was one of 3 winners. If I find any I will let you know.

They are in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Another one was reported in Brisbane today. So they are getting around.
The Royal Australian Mint as an organisation is always tight lipped. But the workers there are very friendly and give all the help they can. So with different people answering the same question, we get a variety of answers. We have had answers of 5 million, 10 million and 9 million. We will just have to wait for the treasury report to know for sure.
