Bogiesmokes Valued Member United States 197 Posts	Posted 06/22/2021 11:15 pm I checked prior posts about black coins, and more than a few replies talked about the amount of luster still on the coin. Given the golden glare that shines when angled under a light, I figured I'd post just to make sure it was PMD...I also thought black Sharpie but I tried a Sharpie test and it isn't that lol. Thanks! But that causes a separation of the copper from the cladding. Usually like a bubble on the inner areas of the coin. But I'm not seeing that on your coin. I see some silver color coming back. So something is coating the coin. Paint, stain that altered the color. Whatever it is doesn't increase the value of the coin. So it's just a spender. PSD. Face value. The value is in knowing what could have happened, and no premium, so that you can move on to the next coin. Report this Post to the Staff

sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 06/23/2021 10:33 am From my experience, an overheated Cu-Ni coin will develop a blackened surface layer only; any subsequent wear will expose the silvery colored metal under that was NOT directly exposed to the air, when it was heated.
