Taking a quick break from the Abbasids with this 1/100 Unit minted in Burma between 750 and 832 AD. It was minted at Srikshetra and is attributed as Mitchiner NIS 2629.

This one will help move us along. It is another Abbasid Dirham, but minted at al-Basra and dated AH 142 (759/760 AD). I have attributed it as Album A213.1.

This Umayyad Dirham was minted at al-Jazira in the year AH 129 (746/747 AD). It is a relatively new pick-up for me and the first time I'm posting it on CCF. I have attributed it as Album A-143.

A very similar coin from me. Anonymous Dirham from the time of Hisham ibn 'Abd al-Malik, AH124/741-742
al-Wasit. Silver, 24mm, 2.80g. There is no god except; the one God. He has no equal; around an illegible line of writing and concentric circles connected by small rings. He is God, the One and Only; God, the Eternal, and Absolute, who has not begotten, and; has not been begotten and there is none; like unto Him; around an illegible line of writing and a pair of concentric circles (Album 137).

That "fantastic creature" could be Nessie, eh?

We're on the fringes of the sceattas now. Unfortunately, they rarely have tight date ranges. Eadberht Class Di Series Y Secondary Sceat, 737-758
York. Silver, 1.00g. Fantastic animal left, cross under tail and triquetra below. Large cross in centre; .EOTBEREhTVF (S 847).

Quote: Eadberht Class Di Series Y Secondary Sceat, 737-758 Fantastic animal left Fantastic, indeed. A deer with a long, pointed tail? A dragon? What was on the mind of that die cutter, I wonder ... Beautiful coin, in any event!

Any other coins for this decade? If not, then let's plan to drop back to the 710s starting tomorrow morning. I'll have a little more to post for that decade.

Here is an Anglo-Saxon Sceat that dates to between 710 and 760 AD. I believe that it was minted at York and is Series J. I have attributed it as S 802A, BMC 166, North 135, and Metcalf 296. I really like the swirly pattern around the cross on the reverse!
