Last chance for posting coins minted in the range of 600 to 609 AD. Starting tomorrow, we will drop back to the decade of the 590s. We are starting to get close to catching up with V2.0 of this subject:

The only coin that I have minted in the decade of the 590s is this Follis. It was minted at Cyzicus in 592 or 593 AD (regnal year 11) and I've attributed it as Sear 518.

Anyone have another coin to post for this decade?

Otherwise, let's drop back to the decade of the 580s starting tomorrow morning.

This half Follis continues a run of Byzantine coins in my collection for this time period. it was minted at Constantinople in 586/587 AD and I have attributed it as Sear 497. Fun fact: this coin was one of my first Byzantine pick-ups, although it has only been in my possession for about 0.16% of its lifetime. Hard to imagine how many palms it crossed over the course of it's ~1437 year life.

This Drachm from the Hephthalite Empire can be dated to 570 to 580 AD. It has an interesting beetle countermark and is attributed as Göbl AN 2404.

I recently picked up another coin of the Hephthalites and will be posting that one in a few weeks as it is more than 100 years older than this one.

Here is a Byzantine Half Follis minted in Nicomedia. It was issued under the authority of Justin II and Sofia in 577 or 578 AD. I have attributed it as Sear 370.

I kept getting distracted, and for some reason I thought I had more time. I guess I'll only be able to post one of the two, then.

Byzantine Empire, Justinian dynasty
Tiberius Constantine (578-582 AD)
20 nummi (1/2 follis), Constantinople mint
Obverse: [DM] TIb CO-[N]TAN PP A, crowned and cuirassed bust facing, holding cross on globe and shield
Reverse: large XX, cross above, mintmark CON and officina letter [illegible - perhaps alpha or delta] in exergue
25x22 mm, 6 grams
SB# 434, Numista 140306

I also have pics (even worse than these) of a Justin II follis dated year 6 = 570/1 AD. If anyone else has other coins to post (or if I find this thread still open tomorrow) I'll try to post that one too.

Catching up after being away from the thread for a while.
Nice lineup of Byzantine coins! I haven't made it back that far with my foray into Byzantine issues ... Those solidi are pretty neat!

@j1m, I'll keep this thread open for the 570s as long as any of us have coins to post. Take all the time you need!

Very nice pair of Byzantine AEs @j1m!

Looks like I've got one more that I can post too. This Half Follis is by far in the worst shape of anything that we have posted recently. I believe that it is regnal year 10, which corresponds to 575 or 576 AD. I have it attributed as Sear 373
.

No problem at all. I'll keep this decade open another day and then we can drop back tomorrow--no rushing necessary!

Looks like it is ok to drop back to posting coins minted starting in the 560s.

To get us started, here is a Sasanian Drachm issued on behalf of Khusru I. It was minted at Artishir in about 564 AD. I have attributed it as Göbl I/2.
