This is a rough looking coin, Just looking for answers, weight is 2.11gr. thickness is .048. Took an average of 10 other 59 coins, they averaged to be .060. Thoughts. Had a request for the side by side with another 1959.

It appears to have been dipped in acid accounting for the light weight.
Notice the thin letters and rim from where it has been eaten away.
We have seen several of these on here lately.

Yes, yes. Appears to have been exposed to acid for some time.

Because of the overall look of the cent, I'm leaning towards environmental damage. Buried for a day or two. I'll admit though, I'm not real familiar with the acid damage.

For sure exposed to something corrosive after it left the mint. We usually just call it an acid bath, but it might be a ground find instead.

Added: it must be from 1959, right? Otherwise it would have a wheat reverse.

Environmental post mint acid damage, perhaps from being buried in acidic soil for a few years, or being in a coffee cup holder for a few years. Not worth saving for any reason, in my opinion.

Now, just how did we (I) miss that little point about the date?

I'd vote for a ground buried coin in slightly acidic soil.

Nice catch, Spence! I was only paying attention to the condition of the coin. It kinda feel like the cup game with the pea. Misdirection.
