I was going through a box of raw Ikes to thin the herd. I gave the culls one last close look and came across this one.

Weaker strike, circulation wear and hits in nasty places. Nothing but a spender here, until I took a closer look at the "R" in liberty.

It's a nice example of the "flared" peg leg. Note the separation here between the bottom of the vertical and the top of Ike's head.

Compare to the following normal 1972-D Ike that was next to it:

So this Ike gets a reprieve. It's crazy this didn't catch my eye before. I've had this one for a long, long time.

Looks pretty much normal. The peg legs are smaller in size:

They are basically an over polished die issue. To me they are not mint errors, but the slabbers like them. (They make a lot of money getting people to use this service)

Thanks for the pic, coop. Far be it from me to question your call, and I will be happy to defer to your expertise, but I do see a difference between the two coins I posted. I also compared this one to every 72-D I have and I am seeing a difference. But sometimes we see what we want to see.

Thanks for the feedback. It helps me learn and sharpens my eye and skills. In the long run, it's not a valuable coin, but curious enough to my eyes that I thought I'd share it with everyone.
