No light source, just diffused natural light. I never did product photography so I never purchased a light box. Only issue is that I'm limited to a certain time of the day to take pictures otherwise the shadows become harsh. These aren't actually great as I was rushing to do them and I had 36 pictures I needed to take (Obverse and Reverse of each). Also I like the morning light as its more diffuse, these were taken in the midday, hence harsher light.
A beautiful coin. Congratulations on your purchase

I've heard that some photographers are ready to photograph anything and anyone, but not coins. Coin photography is a separate art , it requires certain skills and abilities
Today's coin celebrates the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII. Portugal while neutral in WWII helped both the US and the UK. Since it was neutral, Germany was buying Tungsten from Portugal and Portugal would make Germany pay in Gold, the gold was then sent to the UK to assist in the war effort. A lot of clandestine shenanigans going on, but I digress. Its a nice coin with another weird amount in this case 8 Euros. With a bullion value of $6.13 and a cost of 8 Euros, its more a bullion coin than anything else.

Today's coin commemorates Fado. You may ask what Fado is?
Fado is the Portuguese version of Soul Music, it translates the word "saudade" which has no real comparable in English, the closest being "longing". Fado is the music of the soul, its center on memories, love, tragedy, missing and longing.
The most famous Fado singer could be either Carlos do Carmo or Amalia Rodrigues. Almost every time we go to Portugal, we walk up the "Street of Broken Backs" to a 1200 year old church to hear the fado of Coimbra.
For those that never experienced "Fado" here is a video of Carlos Do Carmo "Lisboa, Menina e Moca" in which the singer compares his lover to the city of Lisbon. This was redone by the current crop of today's best Fado singer.

It is a beautiful coin. The Portuguese Guitar portrayed is a fascinating and unique instrument with an incredible sound, and such an integral part of fado music. I fell in love with this genre after listening to Mariza singing "El fado" Thank you for sharing your passion for Portuguese coins.
A few years ago there were several shows of Fado at NJPAC, I attended every single one and we gave my parents tickets to one of the shows. I was actually a little bummed we couldn't go to a fado show on this visit to Portugal, but we are going next year again, so hopefully we can make it to one.
Today's coin actually circulated. It celebrates the 730th anniversary of the University in Coimbra.
Coimbra is a beautiful city on the banks of the Mondego river.
It has a pedestrian mall with great shops and restuarants.
Pretty squares.
And classic churchs
The upper part which is the oldest is surrounded by the old roman wall. This is one of the gates to the old part of the city and the university.
As the upper part is very hilly, the road to the top is called "Road of Broken Backs"
Its easier going down.
When walking there are "models" everywhere.
And now the coin.
The design depicts the tower of University of Coimbra and a visual composition of triangles representing the roofs of the university of Coimbra, the highest is the Joanina Library within the lettering 'UNIVERSIDADE DE COIMBRA 730 ANOS PORTUGAL 2020' (English - UNIVERSITY OF COIMBRA 730 YEARS PORTUGAL 2020). The coin's outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
