Today's coin is the 2nd of the 20 centavos I needed to complete a type set. This was 2nd issue. Of all the escudo coins from Portugal the 20 Centavos were ones with the lowest mintages. Some (like this one) are hard to find. The coins were issued in: Silver 1913-1916 Copper/Nickel 1920-1922 Copper (Liberty) 1924-1925 Copper (XX) 1942-1969 Copper (20) 1969-1974 I found this one slabbed. Issuer: Portugal Period: First Republic (1910-1926) Type: Standard circulation coin Years: 1920-1922 Value: 20 Centavos (0.2 PTE) Currency: Escudo (1911-2001) Composition: Copper-nickel Weight: 6 g Diameter: 23 mm Shape: Round Orientation: Medal alignment Demonetized: Yes References: KM571 Mintage (1920): 1,567,000

That's a very nice and attractive addition to your type set, hfjacinto!

This is the final of the 20 centavos. I actually used these, in the 1970's you could still get hard candy for 5 centavos.

Nice one, hfjacinto. It says something about me when the first thing I thought of when I saw the coin was Dos Equis beer...

Thanks all!
I have 2 more coming in. Since I'm mostly done with the type set (well the ones I wanted, the ones on my list will have to come from Portugal) I decided to get a few high grade early coins slabbed and put together a box of 20 (well 17 as the box has 3 Canadian coins). So will see what's available and what I want to add. Looking for MS63 and higher. Most of the early coins from Portugal the top pop is MS64 or 65.

Nice addition Hfjacinto. I have just added another coin of that type to my collection too. Have about half the set now.

Congrats Triggersmob!
Slerk, The whole set of escudo coins is 269 in total. I have maybe around 60 coins. I'm not doing the whole set although there are a few more coins I'll buy if I can find. I want to stick with the early years escudos before the commemorative craze of the 80' s an earlier.

I was bad! Why does ebay have a make offer option? The morale of the story that one should make offers when they want something even if there is no make offer option.

I recently found a seller that had a few coins from Portugal in mint state, so I picked up a few. Today you get a 2$50. Probably one of my favorite amounts in a coin. The coin Issuer: Portugal Period: Second Republic (1926-1974) Type: Standard circulation coin Years: 1932-1951 Value: 2.50 Escudos (2.5 PTE) Currency: Escudo (1911-2001) Composition: Silver (.650) Weight: 3.5 g Diameter: 20.5 mm Thickness: 1.4 mm Shape: Round Orientation: Medal alignment Demonetized: 1969 References: KM580 Mintage (1951): 4,000,000
