Today you get 2 centavos. These were only a 3 year issue (1918 to 1921) and have one of the rarest of escudo coins. In 1918 the Casa da Moeda released an Iron 2 centavos, which had pretty bad strikes and after only 170,000 minted, they were changed to bronze. The bronze issues became worthless and by 1921 were no longer minted.

I am still on the lookout for a nice 1918, but since most had bad strikes or rusted there are very few available and when they are they are generally in poor condition.

But today you get a nice mint state 2 centavos.

The coin.

Nice additions Hfjacinto.
I have a very nice 1918, but not the iron version.
Not sure they are worth the cost of slabbing though,
other than to preserve them.

Steve, yours is nicer than mine! All my coins before this one were actually not purchased off of ebay, but I created a search to find ones that I didn't have and I was able to pick up 4 at a great price so I did get them slabbed.

I don't like buying raw coins from ebay. I did add a few on a watch list so maybe I'll pick up some in the future.

Thanks all!

I recently put together a watch list on ebay of coins from Portugal. This includes a few really old ones from the 2nd dynasty and a few modern ones that are on my list. Since this is ebay, I decided to do these mostly slabbed. I have a box that I was using to store my foreign slabbed coins, but it's been mostly empty for a while, as I was adding to the slabbed collection, the box is starting to fill in. The coins lately added are part of my box of 17 coins from Portugal.

Today's addition to the box is a 1954 10 escudos.
