The other coin was all JCZ's fault as he posted a beautiful coin from Azores. I had to get one also.
You are one to be bullied.

Fantastic add!

I will be careful with showing any more coins

Those 10 escudos. I thing there were not many dies used. 200 thousand were struck and the purpose was to make a profit at a time when the government was still very indebted from the first world war. So they stuck many coins with tired dies and there is this variation. Some show perfect chain mail, many do not. Mine could be better.

A-Collection-Of-Coins-From-Portugal

About the coins used in the Azores islands. The idea of ending the separate coinage was first raised in 1869. Separate coinage for the islands was only ended in 1931 because for many years the largest property owners in the islands wanted to keep paying taxes in a weaker currency. And they also had business in money exchange for the people living there and dealing with the continent. So they lobbied to keep the separate coinage. No coins were struck during the republic but bank notes for the Azores only were printed until 1928. The old coins from the monarchy era continued to be used as small change. That is why the 1901 5 reis is not very easily found in mint state. It circulated until the 1920 decade. Not just until 1910.

Its sold out. I have a well struck example in Raw, but I want both well struck and MS. That's where it gets hard.

Found a nice 1865 20 reis today. This one is lightly scrubbed so it escaped the dealers who box them in plastic for sale. Going into my collection.

Very nice! Most 20 reis I saw were in terrible condition. Nice to find a good one!
