In the Post Your Coins with "Pieces of the Sea" thread, Daltonista posted to me:

Just wait until you start a thread for industrial images! (Mines, factories, mills, smokestacks, etc.)

In response, how could I not create such a thread!

So, the floor is yours...

I'll kick things off with a coin from my Canadian silver dollar collection.

Back in 1988, Canada released a commemorative silver dollar recognizing the founding of the commercial ironworks at St. Maurice in Quebec (Forges du Saint-Maurice) in 1738.

The coin's commemorative reverse depicts two iron workers hard at work at the forge; the design was the work of R.R. Carmichael.

The "industry" connection for this next coin is more symbolic than literal - I refer to the 1893 Isabella Quarter that was issued to help provide financial support to the Board of Lady Managers for their participation in the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893.

The reverse of the coin features a female figure, kneeling, facing left and holding a distaff in her left hand linked to a spindle held in her right. The design was meant to be symbolic of women's industry, using the thread/yarn manufacturing industry as its model. It can be argued, however, that Charles Barber's portrayal was about 100 years out of date as it failed to present the then-current tools and manufacturing methods of the industry! (See the link to the "Coins with Hands Thread" below for the full story.)

The obverse of the 1893 Isabella souvenir quarter features a portrait of the Spanish Queen, Isabella I of Castile; Isabella and her husband, King Ferdinand V, sponsored Christopher Columbus' 1492 voyage to the New World. She is depicted facing left and wearing a jeweled crown.

It certainly wouldn't be my "go to" outfit of choice!
