1946 S 1c OMM S Over D

Woah...those photos are something else. Besides from the resources Coop has provided, I'm not sure if I've ever seen such a detailed and closeup photo of a mintmark before. Perhaps I'm not getting out enough but jeez!

CoinHI, this is a tricky one. I'm not entirely convinced from either side if I'm being honest. I certainly see how this could possibly be a OMM, but there are the important points others have brought up, from Tanman, Coop, etc. I'm also familiar with how damage, or errors can cause interesting effects that nearly perfectly replicate varieties.

All in all, I'm not sure, nor am I qualified enough to determine an answer on my own. However, certainly hold onto it, perhaps send off the actual coin eventually to some experts so they can see it in hand, rather than just the photos.

Whatever it is, it's a fasinating discussion piece, no doubt about that.

I Have to agree. And to add to It, the 'curve' of the 'D' is connected to the lower serif of the 'S', as if it is actually part of the 'S' and the Incuse 'D' Is just damage.
