Picked this up in an auction today. Bid is $1525 for XF. I didn't pay anywhere near that. I don't think the damage is that bad. The coin was on ebay and ended up in another online auction. What would you consider it's worth?

Tell us what the damage is, please. I can't make it out well.

Coinfrog, it appears to be some gauges behind lady Liberty's head.

Looks like some small pock marks under the L. I also noticed that there are scratches going vertically on the neck. The picture isn't that sharp on my cell phone but that's what I can make out. Looks cleaned to me.

NGC has larger images here https://www.NGCcoin.com/certlookup/.../NGCDetails/ There are also several scratches across the head.
A straight XF40 sold 09/26/21 for $1600 here https://www.davidlawrence.com/product/2309111/#. PCGS price guide says $1750. Seems like on a details coin with that variety, it's worth whatever you're willing to pay for it.

Some would call it a "problem" coin, but they're just jealous.

If you got it for way below xf money I'd say you did good.

Nice buy. The damage is minimal, and it's a very attractive piece.

Jerry Picker: I agree with your reasoning.

A slab comment is either 'OFF' or 'ON', but that comment has to be evaluated, and has an influencing value range. The buyer has to decide, and I think you have secured an advantage over other prospective buyers in this regard.
