In conjunction with the 1964 Centennial of the establishment of the Montana Territory and the Diamond Jubilee (75th Anniversary) of Montana's admission into the Union as the 41st State, a number of medals were struck in various metals and sizes. Most are lower relief (i.e., "coin relief"), but most medals feature the official anniversary logo/emblem on their reverse.
Presented here is the official high-relief historical art medal struck for the dual anniversaries. It features right-facing, triple conjoined portraits of Sidney Edgerton (first Territorial Governor), Joseph K. Toole (first State Governor) and Tim Babcock (Montana Governor at the time of the Centennial/Diamond Jubilee) on its obverse and the official emblem of the celebration on its reverse.
I've provided scans of the leaflet that came with the medal; it provides solid background information on Montana's history and development, along with details on the medal's designs. No need for me to repeat any of the story!
