Hunting a wooded trail along the Milwaukee River today I was thrilled to dig up a 1917 Walking Liberty half dollar.

I also found a well worn 1913 Lincoln Cent and a curious spill of twenty Jefferson nickels, most of them from the 1980s.

The photos show the coin right after I had dug it up and after I washed it off in the river. I also took a shot of the find spot on the trail.

This is the second Walking Liberty I have found, the other being a 1945 dug up in May 2016.

Nice find.
Did you clean up that penny? Was there a hidden "S" mint mark?

No "S" on the 1913 Lincoln. You can barely make out the 3 in the date.

I previously found some 1950s Wheaties in this wooded area, so I would imagine that the Walking Liberty and 1913 circulated into the 1940s or even the 1950s before being lost.

Truly an amazing find — and not a bad-looking half to boot. That would have been a nice chunk of pocket change back in the day. Finds in the 1940s to 1960s would be far more common than the 1910s!

Great finds PB!
This time of year is nice for detecting and even better with some keepers along the way.
