Hello!

I just got this beauty in the mail. It looks corroded but checking on grading... any ideas? Tooling on the front?

Width: 29.0mm
Weight: 10.66g

Worth getting graded?

Thanks everyone!

This coin has a lot of problems. It's been corroded and cleaned. The obverse stars and potentially "Liberty" have been re-engraved and there looks to be evidence of smoothing in the fields.

Details wise it's hard to evaluate, based off the reverse it looks to have the details of a VF coin but I suspect you would get an F Details grade from a TPG. Hard to put a value on it but if you paid $150 or less it might be worth doing.

I concur with VF details. That said, I view this as a very pleasing coin, regardless. Tuff date in better grades, too!

If the price was right, it's a great acquisition.

BTW .... to the CCF!

Thank you all, for your comments. I'm ashamed to say that I over paid for this coin at auction ($900 + 20%). I, too, thought it was VF and saw the tooling/corroded, but missed the other problems at the time. But it fits nicely into my Large Cent Dansco!
