In my view, whether the coin has been cleaned doesn't affect the grade since one always grades the coin in hand, after the cleaning has finished. I think your coin is GF, perhaps a weak VF. Grading ideas - see the grading guide on 'coins and australia'. However, cleaned coins are less desirable than uncleaned coins - a cleaned VF will not fetch a VF price. Cleaning almost always lowers a coin's grade, since parts of the design disappear. Report this Post to the Staff

radars_teddy Valued Member 149 Posts	Posted 11/17/2021 8:42 pm When one says it is cleaned, they mean harshly cleaned. SImply dropping a coin in an acetone bath shouldn't care a coin to end up being detailed clean. WHat on this coin indicates a harsh cleaning? Report this Post to the Staff
Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 11/17/2021 8:51 pm Cleaned likely with a material called Silvio, which is a silver polish, failing that a jewellery whizzing bath thing sold by dealers. The coin itself would barely grade fine, the king has an incomplete crown band. Coin is worth bullion value only because of it, which is around $1.60 in New Zealand money. You can see the scratches from cleaning and the blackened rims, meaning it was a very low grade cleaning job, probably with silvio and a harsh metal cloth. Please avoid. Report this Post to the Staff

It is not obvious to me that thsi has been polished. Normally I would look for polishing marks, fine lines. So many things can create fine lines though. The first 1933 really leaves me perplexed. I see no lines on it. It graded VF30 - Details I don't know what I paid for it, but it wasn't $1.30 retail - more likely about $6 Edited by radars_teddy 11/18/2021 8:25 pm Report this Post to the Staff
