I'm sure there is a beautiful texture under there, but can't see it. It is always tempting to slide a sheet of mylar under the flake and see if it will just pop off. It would turn the coin from a two dollar at best lam to a good-looking piece with both parts. But I've seen this tried many times before, and you always end up with a nasty-looking bent out bit where it is still attached but finally shears off. 1955-S Lincoln Wheat cent mint error - retained lamination Report this Post to the Staff

I haven't attempted to "encourage" a LAM to peel out of fear for exactly what you described as a Bent out bit. Never the less, a very nice LAM and a good size too! There have been a lot of minor lams in the set I am just finishing up, but I think this was only the third or fourth strong enough to be worth pulling.
