It's been a warmer than average December here in SE Wisconsin. The temperatures have been in the mid-30s, high enough to keep the ground from freezing.

Last Saturday, I tried a new spot, a wooded park along a small river in a town about twenty miles from where I live. I went back today and was thrilled to dig up the first Barber dime I've ever found.

It's an 1899. Although the rocky soil along the river bank has left it a bit marked up, it retains lots of details and was probably lost over a century ago. I found it in the roots of an old tree.

When I went last Saturday, I found a three Wheatie spill right along the top of the bank in another area of the park. The dates were 1934, 1940 and 1945-D. About ten feet from that spill I also dug up a 1912 Lincoln Cent.

That day I also came upon my strangest find, an at-home pregnancy test that had been discarded back in the woods. I'm not sure I want to know the story behind this!

I have a trusty ten year old ACE-250. It's still going after all these years.
