Certainly it's post strike damage. May (may...) have suffered heat damage very early in its life, perhaps exposure to a corrosive/caustic/acidic environment. May have been 'cleaned' at one point--at least an attempt was made. Possible that most damage was intentional. Does show circulation-like wear as well. Would be a fun curiosity to keep.
Yes, I keep all the uglies I find. Didn't consider acid since the coin is otherwise smooth and shiny but that could make sense for the reverse. Weight seems fine - 4.95 (assuming margin +/- .05)
