Hello all!
I just wanted to know, does anyone on here know of a good, affordable macros lens (that is good for taking close-ups of coins) for a Canon Rebel?
Thanks!

Most affordable, and best, option is to get an enlarging lens and focus helicoid. This is discussed in detail in the "<$400" thread here: http://goccf.com/t/158182Note that you don't have to get the 75mm Nikon lens. Most 75mm enlarging lenses are very good quality, at least as good as most macro lenses you would purchase.

You can see some of my work done with the Canon Macro EF 100mm F/2.8 (older model no IS) I really like it as my go to lens for computer hands off focusing, though for any closer work I have a few various enlarger lenses Rodenstock, Nikon, Pentax, Bessler, Schneider, etc with a Pentax Auto II Bellows. I prefer the Canon only for the ease of use but it's not a super macro or micro enlarging lens, using the USB cable and Canon Remote software on my computer allows for hands free focusing which I use in shooting lots of the same size coins at one sitting. Look at the used lenses for one at places like KEH, or ebay, etc. A quick sample of a simple tripod and Canon Macro EF100mm F2.8 lens shot at F/8 and 1/30 sec. Using two Ikea Jansjo LED Lamps ($9.99 each) for lighting. EDIT: to add I am shooting with an older Canon 7D body nothing of really high resolution though I now have access to a Fuji GFX 100s Medium Format 102 MegaPixel camera. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod..._format.htmlI have not tried it on the coins as I don't have a lens for that, I also have a Sony a7rIII with a MetaBones Canon EF lens adapter, which also I haven't used for coin shooting - yet.

The lens I suggested is (IMO as a retired professional photographer) better than any other brand for the money, look to used ones to save money, they regularly sell in the around or under $400 on ebay, KEH, B&H etc. Stick with the Canon brand as my old Canon service and sales rep said, nothing says amateur like off brand glass. I like the Canon primarily as they just work, and are meant to work with all Canon camera bodies, I've seen aftermarket brands stop working or need to be sent back in for a "re-chipping" or updates to let them work with newer camera body models. Otherwise the optics are usually pretty good in the third party brands, Sigma being one of the better ones IMO, I've had issues though with various Sigma, Tokina and Tamron lenses not focusing properly or having optics out of alignment in the past. Nothing will show that quicker then super macro shots and/or astrophotography, which is my other hobby besides coins.

I use Tokina 100mm for Canon 50D and quite happy with it. The photos are very sharp.
