I'm wondering the same as Cujohn about it being a defective roller from when they rolled out the stock into the flat stock for punching out the planchets.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Looks reprocessed to me as well. Not the chrome shine you'd imagine of a reprocessed cent, but that does not look like original luster to me.

There were a couple of these posted on another forum a couple years ago, both steel cents. Different orientation on those so it wasn't in the die.

new pictures - it loks like the lines are on top of the letters, especially noticeable on the N's.

The N in CENT appears to show a circulation ding, not the linear feature underneath--in my opinion.

ah, better views, since the anomaly also appears on top of the N now I'm thinking it's not a die issue, interesting

Yeah I can't seem to find a definite answer. I took it to a local shop and the first guy had me wait and brought someone up from the back of the store and they weren't 100% sure how it happened. They just wanted to buy it lol. It's likes it's above and below the design? Cool either way.
